Professor Suydam Makes Use of Licensed Software

One great resource that OIT offers to the Washington College community is the Licensed Software. This software is hosted on a "key server" and can be freely used by any member of the Washington College community. The process is similar to borrowing books from a library - except there are multiple copies of each volume. The benefit of using Licensed Software is that students, faculty and staff can have access to very expensive tools for free, making it possible to teach valuable real world skills like coding website in Dreamweaver.

Professor Suydam is one Washington College faculty member who is using our Licensed Software to do just that this semester. For his course, CSI100 - Basics of Computing, Professor Suydam will ask his students to install a free, licensed copy of Dreamweaver on their computers in order to teach them how to write Javascript and HTML. After completing the course, students will have a very marketable understanding of a professional web development application and the coding environments of the modern internet.

The Software Licensing program at Washington College allows for this very costly training to be offered for no additional charge to the students and provides a unique advantage to the WC community.
