Instructional Technology Posts Spring Workshops

Instructional Technology is pleased to announce its Spring 2008 workshop schedule for the Washington College community. This schedule is our most exciting to date and we really think you will like what you find when you visit the Training & Tutorials page:

Following our October training survey, we learned some very important things about what you would like to see from our workshops. You wanted shorter workshops to better fit in your busy schedules. You also wanted workshops that take place in the late afternoon on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Finally, you asked for our workshops to be offered several times throughout the semester to have more chances to enroll.

We are very happy to say that we've addressed all of these wishes for this Spring. Workshops are now being offered in 60 minute blocks from 2:30 - 4:30 when possible. We've scheduled them on Wednesdays and Thursdays during this semester, with three chances to catch your favorite workshop, in most cases.

We've even created some brand new workshops. Tech Tidbits are snack sized (30 minutes) workshops on technology tasks that you can attend during your lunch break. They'll cover topics like uploading videos to YouTube, posting pictures to Flickr and getting the best results with video and photography. We are also offering a Photoshop workshop tailored just for researchers and a workshop of Mac basics called "Get To Know Mac."

Overall, we are very pleased with this new semester's offerings and cannot wait to start teaching.

Communications Outage North Campus in January

FYI:

Beginning on January 2nd, 2008 there will be a communications outage that will leave the Stadium, Harford, Schotland Tennis Center, and many of the Western Shore Dorms without communications services.  There will be no network access (Internet service), no phone, and no CATV services during the outage.

The outage is expected to be repaired by 1/12/08.  This is an estimation of time; service may be restored sooner or later than 1/12/08.  Kirby Stadium and Harford elevators will need to be disabled beginning on January 2nd as there will be no emergency phone service in them.
Emergency phones boxes will also be out of service around the Stadium, Harford, Schotland tennis, and the Western Shore Dorms during the time frame.

This outage is due to the need to re-route the communications cables that pass through the Gibson/Tawes building to provide the services to the North end of the campus.

Please advise the personnel concerned in your respective areas so that everyone is prepared for and aware of the outage.

Wireless Network Outage Tonight

There will be a brief wireless network outage tonight beginning at 5pm. This outage should last between 5-20 mins.  The system will be rebooted at this time.
