Book Lovers' Online Gallery Blog Debuts

On Tuesday night, Dr. Deb Marciano premiered the Book Lovers' Online Gallery Blog (BLOG Blog) that she and her students have created as part of Children's Book Week.

This site - full of children's book reviews written by Washington College faculty, staff and students and members of the local and global community - is an excellent resource for teachers and parents. Visit the BLOG Blog here.

Visitors from the Washington College community and the Maryland State Department of Education filled the Beck Instructional Lab for a presentation, hands-on time with the BLOG Blog and treats.

The event was very well-attended and our visitors were very pleased with the Beck Instructional Lab and the services offered to Dr. Marciano by Instructional Technology for the evening. As Deb put it when describing her students' reaction: "My students are hooked!"

Clarification of Last Night's Email Problem

There was no loss of any email that was already in the accounts.

If email was sent to any of the accounts and the sender received a failure notice, then that email should be resent. Since the email accounts were temporarily unavailable, no new email could be put into them during last night's problem.

Email Problems Wednesday Evening

Some email accounts did not work correctly between 4:30 PM and 11:00 PM on Wednesday evening. All accounts should be repaired with no loss of email.

Dial-In Access Update - Modem Pool

OIT is still working with Verizon to get the modem pool (dial-in) access problems resolved. At this time, the modem access lines are completely out of service. All calls to the lines get a busy signal.

OIT apologizes for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, OIT can do no more than to continue to request service from the vendor.

Corey Olsen Sends Storytelling Off In Grand Style

Corey Olsen gave a fascinating talk today on Literature Before the Book at the Rose O'Neill Literary House. While the 50+ attendees nibbled on a delicious lunch, Professor Olsen explored the Medieval way of storytelling. With examples from manuscripts, the audience learned how complex tales were transfered from the page to spoken performance - not unlike scripts.

Professor Olsen's lecture brought the Storytelling in the Digital Age theme at Washington College to a close. From interactive media performances to open house tours to guest lectures, Storytelling in the Digital Age has been a chance to explore the intersection of writing and technology.

Storytelling in the Digital Age was brought to you as a partnership between The Office of Information Technologies and The Rose O'Neill Literary House.

The HelpDesk Becomes Help & Support

Have you talked to Tech Services lately? If your computer has gone on the fritz, if you've needed a projector or if you've had a campus event recorded, you have. To make Tech Services a little easier to find - and to recognize all the hard work done by these great team members - we've added information about their services to the OIT website.

When you look at the left hand navigation, you'll notice that the HelpDesk link has changed it's name to Help & Support. Clicking on this link takes you to a unified resource that gives you access to everything from software troubleshooting and equipment purchasing (the HelpDesk) to Audio/Visual services and expert computer repair (Tech Services.) You can also find quick contact information from each area.

The new Help & Support page will streamline getting the assistance you need and help put a name to the great services you've been receiving all along. We think you'll really like it.
