Putting You Behind The Camera

On Friday, Brian Palmer ran an afternoon photography workshop entitled “Lighting Experiments” in the Beck Instructional Lab as part of the 2007 Photography Marathon. Like all of Brian’s workshops, Friday’s put the Washington College community behind the camera, allowing participants to practice shooting in a professional capacity.

For Lighting Experiments, students were given the chance to shoot a studio-lit model using a variety of lens and techniques. They were also offered the opportunity to take photos of scientific glassware using different styles of lighting and effects.

Participants practiced their new photographic techniques with Brian’s expert help (and excellent equipment.) The 2007 Photography Marathon marches on this week with a sunrise photo shoot tomorrow (11/1) and sunset & night photoshoots on Friday (11/2.) Oni Buchanan Dazzles With Electronic Verse

Yesterday, Oni Buchanan gave an intimate reading of her innovative poems in the Rose O'Neill Literary House. Oni discussed both digital and analog poetry, sharing examples of work she has created in both paradigms.

Oni has pioneered poetic form by creating origami sculptures and liquid pages of Flash animation. Her "The Mandrake Vehicles" use digital storytelling techniques to expose the poems inside poems (inside poems.) This was truly a unique experience and was a great stop on the Storytelling in the Digital Age schedule.

Network Restored

The air conditioning in Toll as well as the network in Toll, Dunning/Decker, Goldstein, Alumni House, Nussbaum, and Brown Cottage has been restored as of 4:50 PM on Sunday.

Network Outage in Toll, Dunning/Decker, Goldstein, Alumni House

Due to an air conditioning failure in the Toll building, the network in the above listed buildings is out of service. Those buildings receive network service from Toll. High temperature alarms from the equipment in Toll resulted in the network equipment being shut down in order to protect it from damage.

The shut down occurred at approximately 1:45 PM on Sunday and will last until the building air conditioning returns the room temperatures to normal.

Play The Anti-Phishing Game

Carnegie Mellon University developed a game designed to teach Internet and email users how to identify Phishing emails and web sites. The game demonstrates how "phishers" trick people into going to web sites that exist to steal personal information.

Playing the game takes about 15 minutes. It is well worth the time spent to learn how to protect your personal information.

So, take a few minutes to play the game with "Anti-Phishing Phil" at the following web site:
