Network Outage in Goldstein and the Custom House on Monday, July 30

There will be a network outage tonight from 5:00pm to 6:30pm in Goldstein Hall & the Customs House. After this outage, users in Goldstein & the Customs House will see a log-in page when they sit down at their computer and open a web browser- Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox, etc. Just enter your user name and password, the same ones that you use for email, and you will have normal service. Internet Explorer 6 Bug & New Homepage

The new OIT homepage is suffering from a slight incompatibility bug with Internet Explorer 6 and earlier. Because these old browsers do not comply with the web standards used to create the homepage, users may see page elements draw improperly. This issue will not affect Internet Explorer 7, the latest version. OIT is working on a solution to the problem and will make adjustments as soon as possible.

Servers Being Rebooted

Due to a security patch, two campus servers that handle DNS and DHCP will have to be rebooted. The reboot will occur Friday, July 27 between 7:30 a.m. and 7:35 a.m. During this time, you will not be able to use your computer to access the network. The service should be up at 7:35 a.m.

Phone Issues

OIT is aware that we continue to have phone service interruptions.

Local, off-campus, and long distance telephone service still have problems. This may also affect incoming calls. OIT is working with the vendors to resolve the issues. We will continue to provide updates, when possible.

New OIT Homepage Launched

The Office of Information Technologies would like to introduce you to its brand new homepage!

The most popular features of the OIT site have been moved to four featured sections on the homepage for easy navigation. In addition, the new right navigation box features a live news feed from OIT News blog. See up to the minute headlines from OIT right on the homepage. You can also subscribe to the OIT News via an RSS feed and have the news delivered right to you.

WebAdvisor is Operational

WebAdvisor is up and running. The WEB Housing/Phone information screen is the only program that is not working. OIT hopes to have it operational soon.

Instructional Technology Posts Fall Training

Canon Copier Printing Issues Resolved

OIT has resolved the issues printing to the Canon Copiers.  This problem was seen from the new login-based system only.  Please advise the HelpDesk (x7777) if you are still seeing this issue.

Phone Service Issues

As of 8:30am the lines seem to be working.  If you are having problems dialing out, please notify the HelpDesk (x7777).

Long Distance Problem Resolved (Update)

The long distance carrier resolved the problem. Long distance numbers should again work as normal.

The local carrier still has issues that may cause one to dial more than once, or to use the redial key on the telephone set.

Network Login Systems Issue

We are experiencing issues using our new login system.  Users may experience problems printing as well as logging in more than once a day. These issues began yesterday afternoon.

OIT is aware of these problems and is currently working with the vendor
to resolve these issues.

Goldstein and Daly Halls Network Changes

The network authentication system is expected to be implemented on
Wednesday in the Goldstein and Daly Halls. Please note that in order to
log onto the network once that happens, everyone in those buildings will
need to open a browser (e.g., Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer) and
log on to the network using the same user name and password that are
used to access email.

That is true in order to use any network service, such as printing to a
network printer, going on the Internet, getting to email, etc.

While many potential issues have already been solved, it is possible
that there may be other issues. Please let us know if you have
difficulty by advising the HelpDesk at extension 7777.
